The Student Experience Committee addresses priority issues regarding improvement projects and initiatives, and sponsors a coordinated and coherent University-wide strategy pertaining to the quality of the UQ student experience that is not connected to matters of curriculum or teaching and learning quality and policies. Priorities might include strengthening of English language proficiency support, work integrated learning and employability services, transition and orientation programs.

Terms of Reference

The role of the Student Experience Committee is to:

  • promote, sponsor and support a coordinated and coherent University-wide strategy pertaining to the quality of the UQ student experience, a fundamental component of the University’s Strategic Plan; 
  • guide and oversee the conceptualisation, development, implementation and performance measurement of University strategies and targets aimed at delivering key enhancements to the broader student experience;
  • formulate recommendations to the Academic Board and/or other University bodies or officers to enhance the extracurricular student experience, undertaking this function in conjunction with other relevant committees of the University and in particular with the Teaching and Learning Committee;
  • monitor relevant trends and review on an annual basis of all data relating to the student experience, including benchmarking against other institutions (top three performers and relevant market comparators) and ensuring these data are utilised to underpin ongoing work priorities;
  • monitor and promote good practice in relation to faculty and central student experience initiatives including their alignment with relevant strategies and targets; and
  • advise on the performance and priorities of student-facing services.

Administrative Arrangements

  • If the Chair is absent from any meeting of the Committee, the Chair will appoint another member to Chair that meeting. If the Chair is unexpectedly absent from any meeting of the Committee, members of the Committee present at that meeting will appoint a member as Chair for that meeting.
  • The Committee will meet three or four times a year. Additional meetings may be scheduled if needed. The work of the committee will be supported by active working groups/working parties.
  • The term of membership for:
    • staff members of the Committee is two years.
    • student members of the Committee is one year.
    • the two elected members of the Academic Board nominated by the Academic Board Standing Committee is one year.
