Terms of reference

The role of the Committee for Academic Programs Policy (CAPP) is to:

  • develop and uphold policies that maintain the quality and effectiveness of the University's programs, including consideration of proposals for —
    • new coursework programs, including those offered offshore only and new dual programs;
    • structural changes to existing coursework programs (may include new majors and fields of study);
    • discontinuations of coursework programs, majors and fields of study;
    • the offshore offering of programs;
    • introduction of, and changes to, non-award programs;
  • ensure compliance with relevant legislation;
  • advise the Academic Board on policy and program requirements relating to admission, enrolment and progression (excluding Postgraduate Research Awards);
  • recommend to the Academic Board policies, procedures and guidelines relating to prizes, scholarship and University Medals; and
  • act on the delegated authority of the Academic Board and make recommendations to the Vice-Chancellor regarding candidates for the award of University Medals; and
  • advise the Academic Board on issues or policies that relate to the above matters and other designated policies and procedures as set out in Schedule 1.

Administrative Arrangements

  • If the Chair is absent from any meeting of the Committee, the Chair will appoint another member to Chair that meeting. If the Chair is unexpectedly absent from any meeting of the Committee, members of the Committee present at that meeting will appoint a member as Chair for that meeting.
  • The Committee meets eight times per year; additional meetings may be scheduled as necessary.
  • The term of membership is for the elected members of the Academic Board nominated by Academic Board Standing Committee is two years. 
  • The term of membership for the nominated student members is one year.
